An engine is effectively divided into two distinctive parts, the top half being the cylinder head, the bottom half known as “the bottom end” or short motor.
A cylinder head problem or a blown headgasket is often caused by extensively overheating the car, valve damage within the cylinder head is often caused by timing belt failure, causing valve to piston damage.

Bottom end problems are usually attributed to general wear and tear or loss of oil pressure often caused by lack of servicing or oil pump failure.
